Older People

Over 72,000 people are currently living with dementia in London, and this number is set to more than triple within the next 40 years. As a result, we are putting in place steps to make positive changes that will improve experiences for people living with dementia at our Club and in our local community. We are doing this in partnership with a number of local organisations including London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, the Dementia Action Alliance and Fulham Football Club Foundation.

We have trained 165 staff to become ‘Dementia Friends’ which includes a short online training to help support people attending the Club who may be facing challenges related to dementia. The Club has embarked on the next phase of this training with a more in-depth offer for many staff who require further knowledge. Throughout the sessions, staff will be able to enhance their understanding of dementia and improve their ability to provide support to those who need it.

The Foundation has launched Steady Steps—a gentle movement and exercise programme designed to support individuals who are at risk of falling or have lost confidence with their balance and mobility. These falls prevention classes are low-impact and can be done seated, making them suitable for a wide range of abilities.

Classes take place every Monday from 1:30pm to 2:30pm and Fridays from 1:45pm to 2:45pm in the MUGA.

Due to high demand, the programme is currently fully booked and operating a waiting list. To be added to the waitlist, please contact Sarah at sarah.williams@hurlinghamclub.org.uk
